We have given you all the facts to all the myths you have heard about  sun protection!

Myth: A higher SPF number means more protection.

Fact: The SPF (sun protection factor) is a measure of UVB

only and does not measure the UVA. To be protected from

the sun, you must block both UVB and UVA. Therefore a high

SPF number does not ensure complete protection.

Myth: Any sunscreen will protect against both UVA and UVB.

Fact: Most all sunscreens protect against UVB, but only ones

with Zinc oxide protect against UVA (skin

aging rays). To be protected you MUST block both UVA and UVB!

Myth: Waterproof sunscreen provides "all day protection"

and does not need to be reapplied.

Fact: Waterproof sunscreens lose some of their effectiveness

after 40 minutes in the water. All sunscreens need to be

reapplied every two hours.

Myth: You don't need sunscreen if you have dark skin.

Fact: Everybody, regardless of race or ethnic origins, is subject

to the damaging effects from the sun. All skin types need protection

with sunscreen!

Myth: Sunscreen is unnecessary on a cloudy day.

Fact: 80% of the sun's ultraviolet rays can pass through the

clouds. Use sun protection 360 days a year!
