Belotero® and Juvéderm™ dermal filler injections are sterile gels consisting of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance found throughout the body. The role of hyaluronic acid in the skin is to deliver nutrients, hydrate the skin by holding it in water, and act as a cushioning agent.
Dr. Shire is also now offering the VOLUMA™ dermal filler to add volume to the cheek area. This treatment lasts up to 2 years and is great for enhancing the cheekbones.
These dermal filler injections are used to correct wrinkles, scars and fill in defects. There is not a required skin test for Belotero® and Juvéderm™ because they contain no animal products, thus patients sensitive or allergic to eggs, beef, or chicken are not affected, as they might be if collagen were used.
Belotero® and Juvéderm™ are biodegradable, which means that when the injected gel breaks down, it turns into water and carbon dioxide and disappears unnoticed from the body. Best of all, Belotero® and Juvéderm™ last up to one year!
When Belotero® and Juvéderm™ are placed in an area where improvement is sought such as with filling deep lines, they create or add volume, and work as a filler lifting up wrinkles while also smoothing them out.
