Understanding How BOTOX® Cosmetic Works
BOTOX® is derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, or botulinum toxin, which can be harmful if ingested or used improperly. However, the BOTOX® used in treatments is made in a lab and diluted to ensure its safety. Because of the potential risks, BOTOX® should only be administered by a trained and licensed professional.
BOTOX® works by blocking signals from the brain that tell muscles to contract. When injected, BOTOX® prevents the treated muscles from contracting for several months, which helps to prevent the formation of new wrinkles and softens existing ones.
If your youthful facial expressions have turned into permanent creases and wrinkles, BOTOX® Cosmetic may be the solution. It can smooth out creases and wrinkles in areas like the brow, between the eyes, at the bridge of the nose, crow's feet, and even neckbands.
Typically, muscle contractions-whether voluntary or involuntary-can significantly increase the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Over time, these wrinkles may become permanent and deepen, further aging the skin. BOTOX® helps by blocking muscle contractions, which relaxes the overlying skin and reduces the visible signs of aging.
What to Expect During Your BOTOX® Treatment
BOTOX® is considered an outpatient, in-office treatment. This means that you will come to the office on the day of your procedure, which typically takes only 10 to 15 minutes. Many people even have their treatment done during a lunch break!
All BOTOX® injections are performed by Dr. Shire.
You won't notice an immediate change in your wrinkles after the injection. Typically, you'll begin to see results within three to seven days following your treatment. After about two weeks, the full effects of your treatment will be visible.
If you experience any pain, significant swelling, or signs of infection after your treatment, contact our office immediately. Minor swelling, bruising, or redness is normal, but anything beyond that is very uncommon.
BOTOX® Treatments for Different Facial Areas
BOTOX® can safely be used on several areas of the face and body. However, there are certain facial areas where BOTOX® tends to deliver the best results.
Forehead Botox
The muscles in your forehead are constantly in use and are one of the first areas where wrinkles and signs of aging appear. Additionally, the forehead is more exposed to the sun and UV rays, which can prematurely age the skin. BOTOX® injections are particularly effective at treating forehead wrinkles, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and signs of aging.
Crow's Feet Botox
BOTOX® injections placed just outside the eyes, where wrinkles commonly known as crow's feet form, are another ideal treatment area. These wrinkles often appear when you smile or squint. While they may start as fine lines, they can deepen with age. BOTOX® helps smooth these wrinkles for a more youthful appearance.
Neck Band Botox
Neck bands are lines that form around the neck due to sagging muscles over time. BOTOX® treatments can relax these muscles, reducing the appearance of neck bands and providing a smoother, more rejuvenated look.
Understanding the Cost of BOTOX® in Chattanooga
BOTOX® in Chattanooga is often priced by the unit. However, Dr. Shire does not charge by the unit. Instead, pricing is determined by the treatment area-whether it be the forehead, frown lines (glabella), or crow's feet. Depending on your treatment plan, you may require more or fewer units than someone else. On average, individuals typically use between 40-65 units per treatment. Dr. Shire will work closely with you to create a personalized treatment plan that suits your needs. All BOTOX® injections are performed by Dr. Shire.
